Hugh Trumble of Australia was one of the earliest Ashes heroes during the period 1890 to 1904. 31 of his 32 tests are played in Ashes series. He was a tall off spinner and was deadly on wet wickets .He was almost as equally effective on drier pitches having got 74 ashes wickets in Australia. Trumble also had his impact in more damp conditions in England taking 64 ashes scalps. Trumble has two hattricks to his credit in Ashes. He had nine 5 wicket hauls in his 31 Ashes tests getting 141 wickets in all at 21 average and currently stands at 3rd spot in all time highest Ashes wicket takers list. He was brilliant in Oval test in 1902 series with 12 wickets for the match and 64 runs in 1st innings. His best bowling figures of 8/65 was achieved in that test. He was more successful in his last 3 ashes series getting 78 wickets in 12 tests.
He remained as the more successful Aussie spinner in Ashes contests till Shane Warne eclipsed him. Trumble will go down as one of the greatest Ashes legends of all time.
