Fahima Khatun, Sathira, Shashikala helped their sides’ win in DPL

On the nineteenth day of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Shamity and Rupali Bank Krira Parishad registered convincing wins over Abahani Ltd and Gulshan Youth Club respectively.

Match 1: Abahani Limited vs Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Shamity

Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Shamity won the toss and elected to field first. However, the openers of Abahani Ltd, Sharmin Sultana and Shamima Sultana couldn’t provide a steady start to their side. Middle order also failed to contribute much and Fahima Khatun’s back-to-back strike left them struggling at 66-4 after 22.2 overs. However, Sunanda Yetrekar scored 57 and Sripali Shiromala’s 24 lifted them to 166 on board after 50 overs.

Chasing the total, Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Shamity openers Shathi Rani and Rubaiya Hayat Jilik added 46 runs within 8.4 overs. However, Sanjida Islam took 31 balls to score 9 while Nigar Sultana Joty fell for a 5-ball duck. Jilik scored half-century off 70 balls while Mukta Magre and Fahima Khatun scored 38* and 34* respectively and took the team to the finish line within 41.1 overs. Fahima Khatun awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for her all-round performance.

Match 2: Rupali Bank Krira Parishad vs Gulshan Youth Club

Gulshan Youth Club won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Priyanka Malik and Nasima Khatun added 43 runs in 13.5 overs. However, economical spells from the bowlers dismantled the batting. Apart from the openers, only Fatema Akter Smrity managed to score 25 while the other batters failed to reach the double-digit and eventually bundled out within 98.

Chasing a mere total, Rupali Bank Krira Parishad openers Shuktara Rahman and Isma Tanjim added 24 runs before Tanjim fell for 5. Rahman also fell for 18 off 19. Later, Farzana Hoque Pinky and Sathira Jakir Jessy steadied the ship, added rest of the runs and guided the team to an easy win. While Farzana scored 24, Sathira Jakir Jessy smashed an unbeaten 35-ball 49 including 10 boundaries. Shashikala awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for her spell (7-1-17-3).
