With the India v Bangladesh T20I series done and dusted, the post mortem of India’s performances showed some positives and a few negatives as well. Deepak Chahar and Shreyas Iyer were the two big gains of this series and both seems to have booked their spots in the World cup T20 squad one year from now. However we came accross quite a few disappointments in the form of Rishabh Pant, Khaleel Ahmed and to some extent Shikhar Dhawan . We did a brief rating of the Indian team players as under on a scale of 10 :
Rohit Sharma (7.5/10) : Led the team very well specially in 3rd ODI when conditions were against bowling. Played a brilliant match winning 85 in 2nd game to level the series which was on the line. Strike rate for the series 178. Lost few points due to cheap dismissals in 1st and 3rd game.
Shikhar Dhawan (4.5): Strike rate only 107. Not doing enough justice to his talent in T20I. 41 in 1st game on a slow pitch , looked good briefly in 3rd game but got out.
KL Rahul (6) : Came into his own with a fluent 52 in 3rd game to push up his points. However can do a lot better than his series strike rate of 119.
Shreyas Iyer (9.5) : Looked in ominous touch throughout the series with big sixes and a great strike rate of 183 for his 104 runs at 54 average. Finally has been the answer to India’s prayers for number 4. Looks all set to make the World cup squad and be in the first XI.
Rishabh Pant (3): Major disappointment of the series. Could not get going with the bat and made silly and basic errors with gloves. Unless there is a quick turnaround in his performances, he may well find himself out of the team.
Krunal Pandya (3.5) : Could not consolidate his spot in the team . Dissappointing with the ball going at 8 an over and did not get wickets. Apart from his brief cameo in 1st match ,had a subdued series and was replaced in 3rd game.
Washington Sunder (5) : Had an average series. Was tight with the ball going at 7 an over but needs more wickets to show. Played a brief cameo in 1st match.
Shivam Dubey (6.5) : Had nothing to show for this series till his golden bowling spell in Bangladesh innings in 3rd game. Picked up the crucial scalps of Musfiqur and Naim to turn the game around from a losing situation. His 3/30 was crucial for India’s win. Yet to show his batting skills in limited opportunities. His spot will be in doubt once the big boys are back.
Manish Pandey (7): Played last game and produced a good unbeaten cameo.
Khaleel Ahmed (2.5): Dissappointing series, could not live upto the expectations and struggled in crunch moments. Good fast bowler, so needs a bit of support from team management.
Yazuvendra Chahal (6) : Was very good in 2nd game but struggled in other two . 4 wickets for the series but needs to work on his economy.
Deepak Chahar (10): Man of the series. Was India’s best performer . World record best figures of 6/7 in T20I cricket in the most toughest of bowling conditions with opposition threatening to win and dew on the ground. With no swing on offer, relied on his cutters and deft skills with variations of pace. 8 wickets for the series at below 6 economy rate. A certainty for World cup T20 next year .
