Nigar Sultana Joty, Chamari Athapaththu star in their side’s win

On the twenty-third day of Dhaka Women’s Premier Division Cricket League, Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Shamity and Sk. Rasel Sports Development Academy registered convincing wins over Rupali Bank Krira Parishad and Abahani Ltd respectively on the second day of Super League.

Match 1: Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Shamity vs Rupali Bank Krira Parishad

Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Shamity won the toss and elected to field first. Asked to bat, openers of Rupali Bank Krira Parishad, Shuktara Rahman and Jannatul Ferdous Tithi managed to put up 16 before the former fell for 7. Jannatul Ferdous took 71 balls to score 22 while Farzana Hoque Pinky failed to score big. Lata Mondal remained unbeaten at 64 and Nilakshi de Silva scored a 44-ball 30 and took the side to 176 before they bundled out within 47.1 overs. Fahima Khatun bagged 3 wickets while Laboni Akter and Mumtahena Hasnat took 2 each.

Chasing the total, openers of Khelaghar Shamaj Kalyan Shamity couldn’t provide a steady start as Sathi Rani Barman and Rubaiya Hayat Jilik managed to add only 24 runs before the latter fell for 4. Shathi Rani scored 38 off 41. However, Mukta Magre (50*) and Nigar Sultana Joty (66*) steadied the ship, adding the rest of the runs and took the team to the finish line with more than 6 overs to spare. Nigar Sultana Joty was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for her knock.

Match 2: Sk. Rasel Sports Development Academy vs Abahani Ltd

Abahani Ltd won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Montaha Khatun Monty and Sharmin Sultana compiled mere 15 runs. Shamima Sultana also failed to impress while Sunanda Yetrekar took 102 balls to score just 19. Disciplined bowling from Chamari Atapaththu, Nahida Akter, Khadijatul Kubra and Rumana Ahmed crumbled their opponent’s middle order. Sripali Shiromala scored a quickfire 47 off 41 with 8 boundaries and put up a total of 148.

Chasing the low total, Sk. Rasel Sports Development Academy also suffered the early loss of their openers Chamari Atapaththu and Mishu Khan as both fell for 13 and 18 respectively. Shaila Sharmeen scored a steady 40 while Tajia Akter and Sultana Yasmin Baishakhi’s 20s helped them to win the game within 47 overs. Chamari Athapaththu was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for her outstanding bowling figure (10-4-17-3)
