As India and Bangladesh brace up for the grand finale with the series locked all square , the Indian captain for this series, Rohit Sharma met the press at Nagpur ,24 hours before the game and as expected was confronted with questions about Rishabh Pant. Clearly exasperated, Rohit snubbed the media in general asking them to actually take their eyes off Rishabh Pant and leave him alone as he has been the subject of too much discussions lately on his batting and keeping missouts. Instead Rohit advised the media to write positively when Pant is doing well to give him more confidence. He stressed that Pant is 21 and still improving and along with the other talent Shreyas Iyer, has been backed by the team management to express themselves and play with freedom as by only that they will flower in international arena. With experience, they will understand their game better , become more wiser and play differently few years down the line, Rohit said.
Speaking on other areas ,Rohit was effusive in his praise on Yazuvendra Chahal and his development in last two years stressing on his successes and consistency in white ball formats. When asked on the Nagpur pitch ,Rohit stated that he expects a good batting pitch as per the tradition this venue though he is yet to check it out. Rohit further stressed that in T20 format one cannot take any team lightly and it boils down to which team plays better on the day as in this series the visitors won the 1st match ,being the better team while India proved to be the better side in the 2nd game. Rohit further said that it was a commendable performance by the Indian bowlers, taking the pitch out of the equation, in restricting the visitors to a below par score at Rajkot after they were going at top gear in the powerplay at 54/0.
When asked on his disappointment on missing his 100 in his 100th T20I , Rohit simply stated that he was not playing for his 100 and was more than happy to win the game to level the series .
The 3rd and the decider T20I is to be played at Nagpur on 10 November with both teams on the lookout for a win to take the series. While it is expected that India will win the series being the favourites but if Bangladesh wins the last match ,it will be a sensational series win for them against all odds and their first ever series win against India in any format. With the Indian management trying out some less experienced players and resting 4 or 5 of their regulars ,it is a great oppurtunity for the visitors, who however are also without their 2 star players, Tamim and Shaqib. Having won the first ODI and was halted by Rohit special in the 2nd , the Bangladesh team may not go for too many changes. India on the other hand may try out Shardul Thakur for a less impressive Khaleel and may get Samson into the XI. Trying out the other leggie ,Rahul Chahar for Krunal also cannot be ruled out but this being the decider with the series on the line, India may not finally change the team too much.
Thus we all in readiness for hopefully a great decider, with the tourists having nothing lose and has shown some resilience in this series .
