Rohit Sharma scored a blistering 67 and Krunal Pandya’s all-round performance helped India to a 22-run win (DLS) in the rain-affected second T20I against West Indies in Florida on Sunday (August 4). With this win, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Batting first, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave a flying start where they reached the 50-run mark in the seventh over. Rohit took the charge and found the gaps with ease. He hit Paul off his pads for a six over deep midwicket and then hit him for a four.
However, Keemo Paul gave West Indies their first breakthrough when he dismissed Shikhar Dhawan for 23. His dismissal brought the captain Virat Kohli on the crease. Later, Rohit Sharma brought up his 17th half-century with a single to long-off. Rohit scored 67 off 51 balls, including six boundaries and three sixes before his dismissal.
Sheldon Cottrell then bowled Kohli for a 23-ball 28 with a well-executed yorker. Rishabh Pant (4) and Manish Pandya (6) once again failed to contribute much. However, Krunal Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja played good cameos and ended up scoring 167 on board.
While chasing, West Indies got off to a poor start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar once again dismissed Evin Lewis for a duck. Although Sunil Narine opened the innings, he failed to do what he used to do in IPL and fell for mere 4 off 12.
While Nicholas Pooran was struggling to score, Rovman Powell took on Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed. He started hitting all over the park and both added 76 runs. Powell hit six fours and three maximums in his 54 runs knock off 34. West Indies were reduced to 98 for 4 in 15.3 overs before they were asked to leave the field because of a severe thunderstorm. The match was called off where West Indies lost by 22 runs in the DLS method.
Both the teams will now play the final T20I at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Tuesday.
