Simran Bahadur and Vrushali Bhagat power India Blue to a convincing win

A late 62-run partnership between Simran Dil Bahadur (42) and Vrushali Bhagat (40) helped India Blue to get past the line in the second One Day of Women’s Under-23 One Day Challenger Trophy.

India Green won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a rather slow start as the opener Priya Punia took 20 balls to open her account while the other opener YH Bhatia tried to score a little early. Due to a slow start, India Green managed to put up 42 runs in 15 overs before Minnu Mani bowled Bhatia out for 25 off 47. Then, a 33-run partnership between Priya Punia and AD Garg took them to 75 before AD Garg’s dismissal for 11.

Her dismissal brought Shivali Shinde in the crease. She, along with Priya Punia, added another 23 runs before Devika Vaidya trapped Priya Punia before the stumps. Priya missed her half-century by mere 2 runs as she fell for 48 runs off 100 which included 5 boundaries. However, Radha Yadav and Akshaya A couldn’t do much and fell for 1 and 0 respectively; which left them struggling to 105-5 after 38.3 overs.

Shivali Shinde, along with S Anusha, added another 39 runs before the former’s dismissal for 39. Then, a quickfire knock came from S Anusha; who scored 41 off 31, including five boundaries and a six and Sushree Dibyadarshini scored a 16-ball 13 and powered India Green to a decent total of 185 on board after 50 overs. Tanuja Kanwer and Tanusree Sarkar scalped two wickets for India Blue while Minnu Mani and Devika Vaidya took 1 each.

While chasing 186, India Blue were hoping for a flying start and the opener Shafali Verma didn’t fail to do it. She started hitting from the very beginning and her back-to-back big shots took India Blue to 41 in 7.1 overs. However, a catch from S Anusha off Radha Yadav ended her quickfire knock. Verma scored a quickfire 37 off 20, including 8 boundaries.

After her dismissal, another opener Simran added 28 runs with Nuzhat Parween before they both fell within a span of 2 runs as Radhay Yadav and Rashi Kanojiya were successful to send them in the dugout. Captain Devika Vaidya and Tanusree Sarkar tried to steady the ship. They added 21 runs before Sushree Dibyadarshini sent Sarkar in for mere 10. Vaidya too was dismissed after scoring 19 off 40 and India Blue reduced to 106-5 after 32nd over.

They required a steady partnership at that time which Simran Dil Bahadur and Vrushali Bhagat provided with their knocks. They both steadied the run-chase and added 62 runs in the sixth wicket. Simran scored a 68-ball 42 and Vrushali Bhagat scored 40 off 37 before her dismissal. However, their partnership made the winning foundation for their team and they registered another win by 4 wickets.

With this win, India Blue sealed their place in the final of the tournament. Radha Yadav scalped 3 wickets while Sushree Dibyadarshini, Rashi Kanojiya and Akshaya picked up 1 each for India Green.

India Green will face India Red in the third game of the tournament which is scheduled to be played on Monday, April 22. The final will be on Wednesday, April 24.

Brief Scores

India Blue 186/6 (Simran Dil Bahadur 42, Radha Yadav 3/38) beat India Green 185/6 (Priya Punia 48, Tanusree Sarkar 2/29) by 4 wickets.
