While talking about some of the most memorable ODI knocks ,one can never ignore the one played by the attractive Saeed Anwar at Chennai vs India in 1997. Pakistan was a very good well balanced team those days and they used to dominate India more often than not in ODIs outside World cups . On May 20 1997 in Chennai batting first Pakistan put up an imposing target of 328 possible entirely due to the belligerence of Saeed Anwar , who looked in superb touch on that day ,with his trademark drives ,cuts and pulls off fast bowlers and brilliant lofted shots with great footwork vs the Indian spinners led by Anil Kumble. It was a thrilling exhibition of dazzling strokeplay and in those kind of displays, even the opposition gets mesmerised. His 194 was studded with 22 fours and 5 sixes .
Chasing 328 , India never really looked in the hunt though Rahul Dravid got a resilient 100 and Kambli played well for his 65. The asking rate always remained a bit out of reach as Pakistan got timely breaks with Aaqib Javed getting a 5-fer. India ended at 292 to lose by 35 runs as Anwar expectedly bagged the man of the match award.
