It was the Eoin Morgan show at Manchester as England batting first amassed 397 against the weakest team of this World cup. After fluent run-a-ball efforts from Bairstow (90) and Root (88), the England skipper took centre stage and decimated the talented spinners of Afghanistan clouting 17 sixes and 4 fours in an astonishing 71 ball 148 !! It was power hitting at it’s best and cleanest. The Afghan bowlers were shellshocked and dumbfounded and Rashid Khan was singled out for special treatment having gone for 110 runs in 9 overs, most expensive bowling figures in a World cup match. At the end Moin Ali smashed 31 off 9 balls to add up to an already huge English score as the game was sealed by lunch .
For the record, in their chase ,the Afghans scored 247/8 in their 50 overs never really challenging England score, with Shahidi top scoring with 76 and Archer taking 3/52 and England winning by 150 runs. Morgan was of course the runaway winner of man of the match award.
